What Do We Do?

Fundación Ávila Cruz AC, works to reduce extreme poverty in marginalized indigenous communities and / or in urban areas with a high and medium level of social backwardness in the Municipalities of the State of Oaxaca.

The State of Oaxaca has high rates of poverty and they are due to the low income generated by households and the inequity in their distribution. The entity also presents considerable lags in all dimensions in measuring multidimensional poverty and highlights the percentage of people with food deprivation.

In the analysis carried out by the World Bank on poverty in the State of Oaxaca, it states that persistent poverty is due to the fact that the population with fewer resources does not have the conditions to develop their income-generating capacities, including human capital and capital. physical to invest in the development of economic activity and that, furthermore, the environmental conditions do not generate productive opportunities for the use of existing capacities. From this derives the proposal to redirect efforts towards investments in skills and opportunities in the poorest areas.

Fundación Ávila Cruz AC, acts to reduce the deficiencies with greater dimension in multidimensional poverty, increase cognitive capacities and generate sustainable changes in the vulnerable population by age, sex or with any disability in a situation of extreme poverty inhabited by indigenous, Afro-Mexican and / or urban areas with a high and medium level of social backwardness.

Fundación Ávila Cruz AC, intervenes with its own model of theory of change and focuses on the strategy of: Human Development (food and nutritional security; health and well-being; and culture for sustainable development).

Fundación Ávila Cruz AC, works with four transversal axes:

Gender and human rights approach: Foster the inclusive participation of women in decision-making and in project planning and implementation, as well as empowering them to see themselves as agents of their own change.

Education approach: Ensure the increase of cognitive capacities for their development, as well as strengthen those existing in the community and ensure inclusive participatory processes that allow the participation of the beneficiary communities in all stages of development.

Intercultural approach: Encourage coexistence between people of different cultures through a view focused on the person as the protagonist and holder of rights.

Encourage the process of transformation or change of the population in their abilities, both individually and collectively to solve problems and achieve their own goals through programs and strategic projects:

  • Promotion of learning and the exercise of skills and abilities in the population to improve lifestyles and changes in society.
  • Increase of cognitive capacities to generate sustainable changes in people´s living conditions.
  • Promotion of self-esteem, motivation and personal improvement training to strengthen emotional development.
  • Strengthening of productive, organizational and commercial capacities to enhance access to economic resources, increase production, profitability and the commercialization of their products.
  • Promotion of savings to ensure a better quality of life.
  • Access to financing in productive activities for the promotion and development of sustainable projects.
  • Awareness and training in the culture of gender equality to reduce inequalities and achieve a change in society.
  • Training on human rights to strengthen the culture of respect for human rights.
  • Participation of the beneficiaries in the different phases of project development to include citizen participation as actors and creators of their own environment.

FOOD AND NUTRITION SECURITY


Strengthen access to nutritious and quality food, increase cognitive capacities, generate technological use and sustainable changes through strategic programs and projects:

  • Food education to facilitate the voluntary adoption of eating and other behaviors related to food and nutrition conducive to health and well-being.
  • Agroecological gardens to guarantee the availability of nutritious food.
  • Hydroponic cultivation at home to strengthen access to quality and nutritious food.
  • Immediate attention to hunger to ensure the effective exercise of the right to food.
  • Use of technology to improve the production of nutritious food.
  • Aplicación de ecotecnologías para el proceso de deshidratación de alimentos nutritivos.
  • Preparation of home canning to strengthen the diversity of the diet.

HEALTH & WELLNESS


Encourage individual and community changes using participatory, organizational and healthy approaches and generate technological use through sustainable strategic programs and projects:

  • Medical technology saves lives, improves health and contributes to sustainable healthcare to reduce hospital stays.
  • Disease prevention to avoid the development or progress of chronic degenerative diseases.
  • The promotion of health to generate changes in attitudes and lifestyles.
  • Early detection of overweight and obesity to generate changes in attitudes and improve quality of life.
  • Medical care days to detect and care for people with diabetes and ensure the effective exercise of the right to health.
  • Medicines for the treatment of people with diabetes mellitus.
  • Hearing health sessions to guarantee hearing services and improve hearing, communication and social integration.
  • Oral health sessions to guarantee dental services and improve oral health.
  • Application of processes, methods and techniques consistent with the needs of the community, in its purpose of seeking proposals for the collection of rainwater, water sanitation and its efficient use.
  • Application of ecotechnologies for the dehydration process of nutritious foods.

CULTURE FOR SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT


Strengthen the culture for the development of the vulnerable population, increase cognitive capacities, generate technological use and sustainable changes through programs and strategic projects:

  • Promotion and dissemination of music, plastic arts, dance and literature for the preservation of culture.
  • Protection, conservation and recovery of the art of indigenous communities in all the original manifestations of their own languages, uses and customs, crafts and traditions of the multicultural composition for the development of the vulnerable population.
  • Rural ecotourism to promote the culture of indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples.
  • Use of technology to strengthen the culture of indigenous and Afro-Mexican peoples.
